Title: Double Helix
Theme: How to propose to a geneticist
Date Written: December 5th 2002
Author: Mark Scally
Double Helix
Once lost in the ether
The strands come together
Forming tentative bonds
As a new union is born
The strands intertwine
Annealing together with the passage of time
Complementing chains
Spiral round the axis of the core domains
A solid backbone has taken shape
And the synthesis now is complete
The result, an elegant double helix
A spiral matrix
As strong as anything put on this earth
Nothing at all will ever break it apart
Hopefully the DNA allusions aren't too obscure... Hey - I'm a geneticist :P

I enjoyed this, but I have always had a fetish for DNA. ( I wanted to be a geneticist too, when I was in 10/11th grade!) I would suggest possibly spacing this out some more, and adding a little punctuation to guide the reader through the poem better. But on the whole, I thought this quite nice!

Nice one. Different from the usual, and different is good. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys (or gals).

I see what you're saying - I'm a bit loathe to change this though as it holds special significance for me. I used it to propose to my wife (who also does genetics). As I read it to her, my voice was cracking and I could see the tears welling in her eyes... I doubt it would have had the same effect if she knew nothing about DNA.. :P

I appreciate that you shared this poem, holding such a personal memory, and especially as moving as it was for your wife (-to-be at the time). Congratulations on the Book entry Mark.
