Hey Everyone!

What is your fav. book series?
Mine is The Shannara Series and The Wheel Of Time Series. Both of them are amazing. *smiles* Later.
SerenaSerenity
Well, I'm just curious. I would like to know if there are any good ones that I haven't read yet. *shrugs*
Mariposa
There are two book series that I read. I love The Cat Who... series! They are great mystery books by Lillian Jackson Braun, I think there are about 22 out in print right now, with another out next March. She's been writing them since the '60s. And the other is the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. Very well written fantasy books. There are all so good I could never pick out a favorite.
Kuwdora
Well, there are always some old classics, the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Good stuff.. and, of course, there's Harry Potter that I'm a personal fan of (movie sucked, tho', IMO) and what else.. My other favorite book series is sort of scifi'ish that I use to read when I was younger called Animorphs, where these group of teens could turn into animals and stuff, by K.A. Applegate. She's got at least 60 Animorph books. Low reading level, but still fun. :)

Hmm. Do Garfield comic books count? :D
Duende
Stephen Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, includes these titles: Lord Foul's Bane, The Illearth War, The Wounded Land, The One Tree, (and a bunch of others)

Ursula K LeGuin's Earthsea books: A Wizard of Earthsea, The Farthest Shore

Katherine Kurtz chronicles of the Dernyi(sp?) which comprise at least 10 books in roughly trilogy format. Camber of Culdi, etc.

(I just reread these after ~20 years) Madeleine L'Engle: A Wrinkle In Time, A Wind In The Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet

I liked Brooks' first 2-3 Shannara books, lost interest after awhile
SerenaSerenity
Mariposa, the Redwall series sounds interesting. The Cat Who...well, I'm not much of a mystery person, but I'll take a look. *smiles*

Kuwdora, I have been trying to find The Cronicles of Narnia. They sound really good. Animorphs are pretty cool, but I have read like 3 of the books. I haven't had the chance to read Harry Potter yet, but I hope I will soon. *laughs* If you want them to, yes, Garfield comics can count, though, I have read them too.

Duende7T, Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever sounds good. I'll look into the erthsea books. Chronicles of the Dernyi sounds interesting. A Wrinkle in Time was ok, I haven't read the other 2 yet.

I also like the other series that Terry Brooks did. I can't remember what the series ws called, but the first book is "Magic Kingdom For Sale. Sold!" It's actually kind of like a funny fantasy. lol
Mariposa
About The Cat Who series, all of the titles start with The Cat Who and then the rest of it is about the book itself. The first one that I read was The Cat Who Said Cheese. They are about a journalist who lives in a very small town that owns two siamese cats. One of which, the male, is sensitive to details (i guess you could say he's psychic), and they solve mysteries. Pretty light reading, but very entertaining.
SerenaSerenity
Coolness. I'll have to look that up. They sound interesting. lol. Thanks.
In Flames
I'd have to say the best book series I have read are:

The Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends series by Tracy Hickman and Margret Weis. These 6 books all run together and are just awsome. They chronicle the adventures of a group of friends. A must read for anybody who likes fantasy.

Also, the Rouge Warrior books by Richard Marcinko are highly entertaining, fictional war stories.
DragynShade
Anything by David Eddings is awesome! My favorite series by him is the Belgariad and its sequel series (yes, series, he isn't satisfied with sequel books, he does sequel series!) the Malloreon. It's really really really cool.
SevenSins
Hmmm series... well... I like...

The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
The Dragonlance Chronicles by Tracy Hickman and Margret Weis
The Dragonlance Legends by Tracy Hickman and Margret Weis
The Forgotten Realms Dark Elf Triology by RA Salvatore
My Teacher is an Alien by Bruce Coville
The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
Chrono
I'll be Amy can guess mine...heh
SevenSins
DRAGONLANCE CHRONICLES!!!!!
DragynShade
If you like dragons you should try Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles. They're really funny. And the dragons are totally awesome.
SerenaSerenity
Oh wow. All those books sound interesting. *smiles* They sound exciting.
Blueseas
ooh hahaha I love those books by Patricia Wrede. I would say they are one of my favorites, I love those. And I used to read the Animorphs, yeah...they were good when I was in Jr. High or so. I like The High House by James Stoddard, and there is also a second book, called The False House. Evenmere books. Those are really good, though unusual. Harry Potter is alright. I would say my favorite series is the Evenmere books. Then there is another series with a character named Cley, I can't remember what they are called collectively, but the first book is called the Physiognomy. It's also rather unusual. But, I'm rather unusal. haha.
Freespirit_02
The harry Potter Series By J.K. Rowlings an excellent choice :)
iamnichole84
Lord of the Rings (I count the volumes as a series, but it's really not), JRR Tolkien
Anne of Green Gables, Lucy Maud Montgomery
Harry Potter, JK Rowling
Kuwdora
Oh, how could I forget!!

The Ender Series by Orson Scott Card!

I'm a scifi buff sorta and LOVE Orson Scott Card (a fave author).

in the Ender's series the orginal book is Ender's Game and then the next book in the series is called Ender's Shadow which is a parallel book of Ender's Game meaning it's the same exact story, except the story's told through the viewpoint of a different character. Then the sequel to those two books is Shadow of the Hegemon and the latest book--the name escapes me right now--came out in August. If you enjoy scifi, you must pick up the Ender's series. :D
SerenaSerenity
Coolness *smiles*
Blueseas
Oooh I love Ender series!! I love Ender's Shadow....cool cool.
Kuwdora
I remember the title now! Shadow Puppets. Awesome stuff. Our libray doesn't have it yet, but I'mma waitin' on it! :D

Abbey! Another fan of the Ender Series! woot! Have you read (gonna stop underlining now, lol) "Shadow of the Hegemon" yet? Bean and Sister Carlotte team up with Peter and stop the war and such?
dexterdiousmonk
My favorite series is Chronicals of Amber And i've forgotten who wrote them agian. It's about 12 books or so now. They're really good fantasy. then Hitchhickers Guide series by Douglas Adams.(he's dead now, and that really sucks) And Support Your Local Wizard by Diane Duane. The first books are rather light, but they get more and more complicated. I'm still on the newest one and haven't gotten past chapter 5 becuase it's really bizare.
SerenaSerenity
These sound really interesting. I am soooo going to look them all up.
SerenaSerenity
Damn it. I forgot a series. It's called Vampire Diaries. I can't remember the author's name though. *sighs*

Vampire Diaries is a series about vampires. There are 2 brothers that are vampires, ones good, and ok, I guess. Well, anyways, they are both after the same girl. Alot of other shit happens, fights and such, but I'm not going to give it away. I have a habit of doing that. lol

The Shannara series is about a guy who is destined to have this sword. It was his ancestor's sword, and it goes down the line from generation to generation. It's hard to explain. *sighs* There is other stuff too.

The Magic Kingdom of Landover series is about a guy who runs a business and he sees an ad in the papper about a magic kingdom for sale. He thinks it's a hoax, but he buys it anyway and it turns out that it's not. It's a funny fantasy. I like it anyway. lol

The Wheel of Time series is about 3 guys and some other people. The 3 guys are like a web. They seem to slightly change everyone's destiny etc. Well, one of them is like this guy(he isn't a good for he has almost died a few times) that's like the most powerful guy in the world, but this power will drive him insane. The other guy can talk to wolves, and the other guy is a reincarnation of an important guy. You would have to read it to understand.

I don't remember if I mentioned the Magic Kingdom of Landover series when I stared the thread, sorry if I didn't.
RazorBlade
Ooooh now THIS is a topic I can sink my teeth into, or at least add a LONG list to. heheheh

Madeleine L'Engle: A Wrinkle In Time, A Wind In The Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet
Loved the series, haven't read them in a while, but Loved it

Young adult books: The Bunnicula Series. I just reread them with my godkids, and I still smile.
Harry Potter (I also like "The Thief Lord" which most European critics are hailing as the next Harry Potter, however, I thought it borrowed ALOT from Neil Gainman's Neverwhere)
The Cat Who ... Series I've always loved
The Lincon Rhyme novels by Jeffery Deaver are excellent (if you've seen the movie "The Bone Collector" it's an adaptation of one of the books)
Dragonriders of Pern- Anne McCafferey
The Rowan series- Anne McCafferey
The Crystal Singer trilogy- Guess based on the last two?
The Power Series- AGAIN the initials are A. MC
The Acorna books- ok, so I like this author?
The Mists of Avalon books- Marion Zimmer Bradley
The Light Series (includes the Inheritor, but all the books beyond that have Light as the second part of their one word titles. Ghostlight, Gravelight, Heartlight, Witchlight, etc)- MZB
The Darkover Novels- You want a long series, this is a great one, and you can usually find the novels at used bookstores since they've been in print so long- again MZB
The Groucho Marx Mysteries- Ron Goulart- Screamingly funny, and good mysteries
His Dark Materials- The Golden Compass, etc
The Summoning Series- Tanya Huff (I've started a topic on her people, you had to expect this)
The Blood Series- Tanya Huff (I like an author, I read all the works I can get my hands on)

Hitchhikers Guide (42)
The Ender Series
The Tamson House series- Charles DeLint (very well established author, very good Moonheart, Yarrow, and so on are in this series)
The Foundation Series
2001, and so on- Aurther C Clark (ok, the man DISCOVERED the Clark orbit, and has amazed us ever since. Especially with the new findings about Jupiter's moons)
The Dilbert Books
Robin Cook's books (they're actually pretty much connected, especially when they involve Jack (trying to remember last name) of the ME's office)
SerenaSerenity
*writes all of this down and all the others too. If she trys to remember them all, her brain will fry* lol
shamespite
I would hvae to say that the book series that I liked the most was The Flowers in the Attic series. I'm not sure if anyone else has posted that yet...but their by Virgnia Andrews and they are great. Despite the sad storyline, the way they are written is wonderful. Never knowing what's going to happen. I love them!!!!
Kuwdora
<just starts to print out this entire thread :D blink.gif>
SerenaSerenity
I have heard of that series Sarah. I have read other books of that author, well, I think it's by that same author. lol. Ummm....the Heaven series. I think thats what it's called.
alanastarr
Kewlies! Another V.C. Andrews fan. Have to be about the most interesting sets of series I've ever read.
SerenaSerenity
Yeah, V.C. Andrews is cool. *smiles*
FlyMan
A series I got into as a kid was good 'ol "Hank the Cowdog" about 27 books I think and I read everyone of them. I loved it as a kid and I kept all those books so I can read them to my kid if I ever have any. Not really good for teens and adults but I loved that series as a kid.
DragynShade
Just thought of another series by a very well known author...except that almost NO ONE know about the series. It's The whole Oz series by Frank L. Baum, 12 books. He also wrote a whole bunch of other books to. And they're all really really really great! READ THEM!
SerenaSerenity
*is making mental note to e-mail the topic to herself so her friend can print it out for her, considering she has no printer* Ok, I know I'm deprieved. *sighs*

All right Abbey, this is soley YOUR FAULT! I took a Patricia C Wrede book out from the library, and I'm promptly addicted!
DragynShade
hehehe. She's really awesome. I got to meet her in person...she's soooooooo cool. She and Diana Wynne Jones are two of my fav authors. They also write to of my fav series.
SerenaSerenity
Wow, thanks. I will read everyone of those that I can. (Pahrump has a very limited library.) Thanks again, and if you have anymore, post them. *smiles*
cavedweller
Well, shoot, I'm glad I took the time to read this! I'm excited about
some of the books mentioned here and have to get to the library (or
book store).
Love C. S. Lewis' Space Trilogy. The descriptive writing and the thought
provoking conversations in that series have stimulated me to read those
over and over again. "Perelandra", the middle book, is my favorite.
If you can find it, and if you're a Sci-Fi fan, look for Richard C. Meredith's
Timeliner Trilogy. The books were published by Playboy press back in
the 70's and are still very highly regarded by sci fi buffs. The names of
the three books are "At the Narrow Passage", "Vestiges of Time" and
"No Brother, No Friend".
I read Stephen King's "Green Mile" when it came out as a series (o.k.
so I'm old) and it was very good. The best book Stephen King has
written, in my opinion. Hey, it's o.k., you can disagree!
thistle
I'm not sure if they have already been mentioned, but definitely try Mercedes Lackey's trilogy. It's called "The Last Herald Mage", and the first book is "Magic's Pawn". Excellent books, very unique, for the fantasy lovers. Oh...and btw...C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia...if you haven't read them, you have to, lol. :)
DragynShade
Also read Mercedes Lackey's other series. Basically ALL her Valdemar books. They're awesome. She has four or so series and numerous stand alone books. Anything she writes is good.
SevenSins
I'm just getting into Lord of the Rings... I LOVE IT! Hehehehe
Blueseas
hehehehe, sorry Kat. It's a real pity there are only 4 of those, eh? Mana you met her (meaning Patricia C Wrede) in person?! Lucky! That's cool.

Just thought I'd add a few more here.

The Sword of Truth novels. They are somewhat interesting, I think. By Terry Goodkind.

Titus Groan, Gormenghast and Titus Alone, by Mervyn Peake. Three books. The characterization of all the beings in the castle Gormenghast is incredible. They are dense books, Peake is a master of word descriptions.

Also, when I was younger my favorite fantasy book was The Castle in the Attic, by Elizabeth Winthrop. There are two books, The Castle in the Attic and The Battle for the Castle. With William, his housekeeper Mrs. Phillips, and Sir Simon? I loved those books dearly, and I wonder, has anyone else read them?
SevenSins
OH! You all need to read the "My Teacher is an Alien" series. Its great! And last book. My Teacher Flunked My Planet, is the best one, its so moving! But I suggest reading the others first. They're by Bruce Coville and I believe they are...

My Teacher is an Alien
My Teacher Fried My Brains
My Teacher Flunked My Planet

Great stuff! I read them in elementary/middle school... but they're still good. I'm gonna re read them someday.
Blueseas
lol, I read those. They are pretty funny.
radioactive slushie
harry potter & lord of the rings!!! go chamber of secrets!!!
SerenaSerenity
Well, I don't know if you could really count this as a series, but there are 2 books. The Night of the Solstice, and Heart of Valor. They are really good, and I enjoyed them.
Sassy_ether
I like the series with that book "Flowers In the Attic"... or maybe it was Roses in the Attic... the title's fuzzy ˘uz I read it so long ago, but I loved that series

Oh, I also like the series with Interview With a Vampire... and the Left Behind Series
SerenaSerenity
*writes this down* Ok, anyone else?
RazorBlade
*sticks her head in again*
The Honor Harrington Series by David Weber. VERY good
