Too Late for Words


Strange to walk in an empty world,
To talk to an empty face…
Speech is only speech is only speech,
And words are but words.
A breath destroys everything precious
With a practiced carriage.
A flicker of time can take everything,
Save perhaps darkened pain.

Chaos is born on changing words,
Trust is built with sweat.

Yes, I have been away for a while, but hopefully I will be back for a while.

This one is going in the book. Powerful words for such a short poem. I love your last two lines, saying that people must work for EVERYTHING they earn, absolutely everything. What we don't earn means little to us, and the things we work for are valued above all else...or at least should be. I also liked your repetition of speech is only speech is only speech, showing the redudance of only talking and never showing. Good stuff here.

Hehe... Only a year later, I see that this somehow made it into the 2002 book. Where are my millions of dollars that I should gave gotten paid?

My only comment is why this poem, any one of this poet's poems could fill the book. if any poet is ready for a published book of poems, this poet is.

And now another year later... I still haven't gotten my paycheck. Stupid postal service...

Didn't you know the check was only valid for 180 days from issuance? We spent the unused funds on a lovely party in your honor. At least I think it was lovely, it started that way anyway, but with an open bar and all... :P
