She finds herself standing
in front of a new image
of old life and love.
Casting shadows at the sky
a fallen tree stands.
Wilted and green
it is a welcoming goodbye
to her heart,
which grows wings to fall
into the cold arms
of a blazing love.
The grass flies through her fingers
while her dreams
run to nowhere.
All her thoughts turn
to those deep brown eyes
and the endless beating drum
in her quieted heart.
A sun rises in the night,
and the stars shimmer
in her wide shut eyes
while a voiceless song
escapes her lips;
A prideful tune
from a humble soul.
The shining image fades
and she finds herself
standing once more
in the closed arms
of those brown eyes.
The endless drumming in her heart
quits beating.

Lovely piece-- "Heart's Eye" is an imagery-packed metaphor. The clinching stanzas end the poem well, not a drop of cliche around here anywhere.

on re-reading it (yet again!) I'd rather "Casting shadows at the sky" rather than "to" the sky, contains more mystery.

On re-reading I am as impressed as ever, after just tearing apart one of your lesser pieces Songbird, let me say here that this is one of the most beatiful new poems read this year.

*blushes* Why thank you LP. Your thoughts are much appreciated. Which lesser poem of mine did you just tear apart, by the way?
